Getting Around

Boston is a vibrant, diverse, and lively city waiting to be explored; steeped in European charm and paved by numerous waves of immigrants Boston is truly an international city. However, getting around Boston can be somewhat difficult for the novice tourist. Below you will find numerous ways to navigate our wonderful city.

 


 

Subway - "The T"

One of the easiest and economical ways of getting around Boston is via the Subway, commonly referred to as "The T".  When entering a station, you'll have to purchase a "Charlie Card" which you can pay for with cash, or a charge card.  Charlie Cards can also be re-charged.  Click here for accessibility services.

Bus

You can get virtually anywhere by bus in and around the city.  They are typically slower than the Subway depending upon trafic but offer more stops.  Busses are conveniently numbered and stations easy to find.

Commuter Rail

The Commuter Rail takes you far beyond the city, and through the suburbs.  It's more expensive than the Bus and Subway but should your stay be outside of Boston, this is a great alternative to getting into the city by rail. The Commuter Rail also connects to many of the main Subway Stations.

Commuter Boat

The Commuter Boat is a great way to cruise into the city with ease.  If you're heading into the city, you can pick up the Commuter Rail from Quincy, Hingham and Hull.  All Commuter Rail boats go to Long Warf or Logan Airport.
