About the event

The Spring "Haflastravaganza" (a play on the Arabic word "hafla" which means party), is a bi-annual multicultural showcase of dance styles ranging from MENAHT (Middle Eastern, North African, Hellenic, Turkish) to Asian and Balkan styles. In the past, we have had a Bollywood number, Raqs Sharqi ("Dance of the East"/Arabic dance), Shaabi (Egyptian style meaning "of the people"), Turkish, American Modern Fusion, Greek/Tsiftetelli, and even a Hungarian folk number. We have featured artists from all over New England, including Maine, NH, VT, Western MA, and the Boston area. It is a fun opportunity for the community to experience multicultural dance and music in person. We strive to promote peace and joy through dance. There will be snacks and social dancing after the performance.

Featuring exciting new performances from House of Andromeda, Kaylin, Soraya Jamal, Lucca Lux, Laura Serephina, Namid, Jade, Kadriya, and joining us again from VT - Amity Alize and The Raq-ettes!

Andromeda Belly Dance was established by Director Andromeda of Boston in 2015. We are a small independent group embracing cultural dancing, body positivity, and empowerment of women and minorities in the community. We have performed in private and public venues, including the Adventure and Travel Show at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston and local assisted living facilities. We have also performed with other local dance organizations. We enjoy producing our own shows in Newton twice a year.

This program is supported in part by a grant from the Newton Cultural Council, a local agency that is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.

Alcohol is not allowed on the premises. Street parking is available. The event is accessible. GRACE CHURCH IS A SAFE SPACE OPEN TO ALL! The show is Family Friendly!

Tickets are extremely limited and seating is reserved! The last show sold out. Get your tickets now and support local artists!
